Recruiting papers related to “Corpus-based Data-driven Speech Research in Asia”

Purpose of the special theme Recently, it has become feasible to effortlessly utilize speech and language corpora not only in English and Japanese, but also in various languages and dialects in the world. It is now relatively easier to conduct phonetic researches and/or analyses based on the real data thanks to such the corpora. The organized distribution of speech and linguistic corpora preceded in Europe and USA, the collection and development of Asian speech and linguistic corpora have also been actively promoted recently, and various new corpus-based researches are being conducted. This special issue calls for several new corpus-based researches on the Asian languages and also the corpus-based studies on the second language learning in Asia. This issue is aimed for overviewing and understanding the current status and issues of the Asian corpus-based phonetics research and also for indicating required corpora and the future directions. Papers to be submitted to the special issue may relatively include technology-oriented or engineering-oriented perspectives, however, their outcomes have to be beneficial to phonetics and be the stepping-stone into the future development of corpus-based phonetics research.
