The Phonetic Society holds regular meetings twice a year in which society members present recent research or work in progress in a setting that is somewhat more informal than the annual convention. The Phonetic Society holds two regular meetings and an annual convention every year.

Cancellation of the next regular meeting

The 341st regular meeting, which was announced to be held on May 30th, 2020, at the University of Tokyo, has been canceled due to the context surrounding the novel coronavirus. By the end of April, we will provide information about the general meeting, which is planned to be held on September 26th and 27th, 2020, at Kobe Gakuin University.

The meeting of the councilors, which is usually held after a regular meeting, has been postponed. We expect that the first meeting of this academic year will be held at the general meeting. The exact date of this meeting will be announced at a later time.

  • Time allocation: The symposium should be at least two hours but should not go over three hours. 20% of the time should be provided for Q&A including the audience.
  • Presenters: There should be more than two presenters, and more than half of them should be members of the Phonetic Society of Japan. The symposium may have a chairperson and panel members (members or non-members).
  • Topic: should be suitable as presentations at the Phonetic Society of Japan.
  • Preparation: PR activities and operations on the symposium day will be supported by the Planning Committee. However, the organizer is fully responsible for any preparation before the symposium day. The Phonetic Society of Japan will not provide travelling expenses or rewards for presenters.
